ChelleChelle writes "The NTP (Network Time Protocol) system for synchronizing computer clocks has been around for decades and has worked well for most general-purpose timing uses. However, new developments, such as the increasingly precise timing demands of the finance industry, are driving the need for a more precise and reliable network timing system. Julien Ridoux and Darryl Veitch from the University of Melbourne are working on such a system as part of the Radclock Project. In this article they share some of their expertise on synchronizing network clocks. The authors tackle the key challenge — taming delay variability — and provide useful guidelines for designing robust network timing algorithms."

Such IP-enabled 'smart objects' give rise to a wide range of applications, from energy-efficient homes and offices to factory equipment maintenance and hospital patient monitoring. We present Scratch, Click & Vote voting scheme, which is a modification of the Punchscan and ThreeBallot systems. The scheme is end-to-end veryfiable and allows for voting over the Internet.
Security against malicious hardware and software used by a voter %TT
is due to the fact that a voter's computer does not get any knowledge about the voter's choice. Moreover, it can change successfully a voter's ballot only with a small probability.

Looks like the BBC is looking to make a little history today possibly becoming the first traditional TV station to offer all of their programming on demand and over the Internet. That's right, while we're stuck watching YouTube highlights our friends across the pond will soon be running the BBC's new iPlayer service, which lets viewers watch all of the BBC's programs from the previous 7 days and even lets them store shows on their PC for up to 30 days. A final decision approving the service will be made May 2nd. We're jealous. – Louis Ramirez
